Reflection Week 10

As for this week, we were assigned to present the first draft for our third assignment. My group were the first to present to the class. We also met our new lecture, Dr. Zahra Naimie. As my group presented our ideas to the class, our lecturers lists down more useful ideas to improve our lesson plan. They commented which part that need to be improved and taught us a better way in planning our lesson. It was a very useful and helpful class for the week. I hope they will be satisfied with our presentation later.

Week 9 Reflection

This week we learn about Method of Teaching, Dr.Chin told us what we must put in our Tugasan 3.

Methods of Teaching.

  1. Teach competence
  2. Teach skills
  3. How to questioning our student effectively
  4. Socratic questioning
    • Getting students to clarify their thinking , e.g., ‘Why do you say that?’, ‘Could you explain further?’
    • Challenging students about assumptions, e.g., ‘Is this always the case?’, ‘Why do you think that this assumption holds here?’
    • Evidence as a basis for argument, e.g., ‘Why do you say that?’, ‘Is there reason to doubt this evidence?’
    • Alternative viewpoints and perspectives, e.g., ‘What is the counter argument for?’, ‘Can/did anyone see this another way?’
    • Implications and consequences, e.g., ‘But if...happened, what else would result?’, ‘How does...affect...?’
    • Question the question, e.g., ‘Why do you think that I asked that question?’, ‘Why was that question important?’, ‘Which of your questions turned out to be the most useful?’
  5. Managing discussion
  6. Group work.

We also did an activity on listing at least ten uses of water bottles. My partner Ruby were the last group to list down the bottles. One of the rules were, our answers should not be the same. Dr. Chin stated that this paired work were suppose to help us in finding more ideas.

Week 8 Reflection

For this week, Dr. Chin explained to us about our third assignment. She told us the criteria needed in the assignment and ask us to discuss with our partner. When we are done, she continues the lesson by teaching us the "TAKSONOMI BLOOM".

Taksonomi Bloom was created by Benjamin Bloom in the year of 1956.

Next, she showed us the slide on how to teach "Matlamat Pengajaran."

Matlamat Pengajaran:
  1. Menyampaikan maklumat
  2. Membolehkan murid menguasai kemahiran
  3. Membantu murid memiliki nilai yang sihat
  4. Menggalakkan murid berfikir
  5. Membantu murid berdikari

Prinsip-prinsip Pengajaran Atan Long (1982) :
  1. Merancang pelajaran.
  2. Penggunaan pelbagai teknik dan kaedah pengajaran.
  3. Melibatkan murid aktif dalam P & P.
  4. Mengambil kira perbezaan murid.
  5. Mengaitkan isi pelajaran dengan pengetahuan dan pengalaman pelajar.
  6. Merangsang fikiran murid.
Prinsip-prinsip Pembelajaran:
  1. Persediaan prapembelajaran
  2. Perbezaan individu
  3. Penglibatan aktif
  4. Motivasi dan dorongan
  5. Pembelajaran kondusif dan bertujuan
  6. Latihan yang kerap
Jenis-jenis Pembelajaran:
  1. Pembelajaran isyarat
  2. Pembelajaran rangsang gerak balas
  3. Pembelajaran secara rantaian
  4. Perkaitan lisan
  5. Pembelajaran pembezaan
  6. Pembelajaran konsep
  7. Pembelajaran prinsip
  8. Menyelesaikan masalah
Faktor – faktor mempengaruhi kesediaan belajar:
  1. Kematangan fizikal dan mental
  2. Pengalaman dan pengetahuan sedia ada
  3. Kemahiran asas
  4. Mengekalkan perhatian
  5. Dorongan dan motivasi
  6. Aspek sosial dan persekitaran
Tingkat Pengalaman Pembelajaran:
  • J.F.Callahan et.al.,(1998) membahagikan tahap pembelajaran kepada 5 peringkat iaitu:
  1. Pengalaman sebenar
  2. Pengalaman simulasi
  3. Pengalaman imaginasi
  4. Pengalaman visual
  5. Pengalaman verbal
Komunikasi dalam proses P & P:
  • Model Komunikasi Shannon-Schramm
  • Dalam p & p, guru menyampaikan pelajaran (proses enkod), murid memahami pelajaran (proses dekod)
  • Murid memperlihatkan pemahaman.
  • Komunikasi kurang berkesan kerana bising.
Komunikasi kurang berkesan:

  • Keadaan kurang kondusif – bilik darjah panas.
  • Keadaan kurang selesa.
  • Tumpuan murid terganggu.
  • Penyampaian guru kurang berkesan dan kurang menarik - sebutan, suara kurang jelas.
Pengajaran berkesan:
  • Menyoal murid
  • Peluang murid menyoal guru
  • Murid membuat rumusan pelajaran
  • Membuat ujian
  • Membuat latihan
  • Membuat kuiz

Then, she taught us about objektif pengajaran, tujuan menyediakan objektif, domain objektif and cara menulis objektif. It's a pack and useful lesson of the week.

Week 7 Reflection

ARCS Motivation Model

For the seventh week, Dr Chin taught us about the ARCS Motivation Model. It is a theory on how to give student a motivation in learning. ARCS stands for attention, relevance, confidence and satisfaction.
Here's the explanation of the ARCS model.

Next, we learn Dick and Carey Design Model.

Dr. Chin also showed us Jit2u website. JiT2u.com is a website that can be use as a guideline in the use of media or application in the computer and from the Internet. The guidelines includes:
(i) Social networking tools
(ii) Sharing tools
(iii) Presentation tools
(iv) Communication tools and etc.

Week 6 Reflection

Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction.

For week six, Dr Chin has taught us this topic as a reference when we are planning our lesson plan. This strategy is to help educators to design process that share the behaviorist approach to learning, with a focus on the outcomes or behaviors of instruction or training. The steps are,

1. Gain attention of the students
This is to ensure the learners are ready to learn and participate in activities by presenting a
stimulus to gain their attention.

2. Inform students of the objectives
This is to help students to understand what they are learning for the course.

3. Stimulate recall of prior learning
Help students make sense of new information by relating it to something they already know or something they have already experienced.

4. Present the content
Use strategies to present and cue lesson content to provide more effective, efficient instruction. Organize and chunk content in a meaningful way. Provide explanations after demonstrations.

5. Provide learning guidance
Advise students of strategies to aid them in learning content and of resources available.

6. Elicit performance (practice)
Activate student processing to help them internalize new skills and knowledge and to confirm correct understanding of these concepts.

7. Provide feedback
To get immediate feedback of students performances. It is a process to assess and facilitate learning.

8. Assess performance
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional events, you must test to see if the expected learning outcomes have been achieved. Performance should be based on previously stated objectives.

9. Enhance retention and transfer to the job
To help learners develop expertise, they must internalize new knowledge.

Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction can help build the framework with which to prepare and deliver instructional content. The goals and objectives should be prepared before applying the nine event's of instruction into teaching. It can be then modified to fit in both the content and student's level of knowledge.

Week 5 Reflection

For week five, we have been assigned to present four videos and six websites on technology application in teaching in early childhood education. As for me and my partner, Rosmarubi Binti Abdul Samat, we have chosen the theme 'sea creatures' for our presentation.

The videos include, song, games, cartoon and working sentences about sea creatures. Here are the videos.

1. Slippery Fish Song

2. Games for sea creatures

3. Cartoon to learn about sea creatures

As for the websites, we found blog and pages about sea creatures. The contents include, songs, lyrics, coloring material, games, etc. I found that, we can apply many technologies now in our teaching if we take the initiative to make some research on what topic we would like to teach. I hope that i can make a different when i am a teacher.

Week 4 Reflection

For week four, Dr Chin teaches us how to use powerpoint. For example, how to insert pictures, video clips, clip art, animations, and etc. Here, i will show few methods how to insert video clips into powerpoint slide and how to use it.

How to insert video into Powerpoint slide?
There are two methods of inserting video clips into power point slides. First, by using hyperlink to the video clips from the Net and secondly, by downloading the clip video itself, convert it into a suitable format that can be read by power point and insert it into the slide.

Pictures Enhance a Presentation
Content layout slides, such as the slide in this example, have a button shown on the slide to click, to add the type of content you want in that section of the slide.
Content options available are
  • insert table
  • insert chart
  • insert Smart Art graphics
  • insert picture
  • insert clip art
  • insert media clip
To follow this example, you need to click the button to insert a picture. Locate the picture on your computer.
Note - If you have not chosen a Content layout type of slide you can easily insert a picture from the ribbon.
  • Click on the Insert ribbon.
  • Click on the Picture icon
  • Locate the picture on your computer.
In addition, here is a blog where you can see more on how to use the powerpoint slide.

SECOND CLASS

For the second class, Dr. Chin started the class by continuing the previous lesson which is WordPress. She gave us much more information on how to use it. In fact, she even invited another lecturer into the class to introduce her about WordPress. She taught us on how to follow her post, to like and to comment on each of her post in her page.

By the end of the lesson, I became to know how to view other pages from another WordPress, how to create a post, how to like a post and how to comment on a post in a WordPress. Although I was never into WordPress, but Dr. Chin succeeded in convincing me that I should give a chance to WordPress. It is much more interesting to use compared to blogger.com.

Next, she continues the class by teaching us the types of search engines. Here are the search engines that I have found out.

(1) web.com
(2) Yahoo.com
(3) Altavista.com
(4) aol search
(5) google.com
(6) Askjeevers.com
(7) hotbot.com
(8) iWon.com
(9) inktomi.com
(10) looksmart.com
(11) lycos.com
(12) netscape.com
(13) dmoz.org
(14) abc.net.au

From this lesson, I finally found out that there are more types of search engines besides Yahoo and Google. There are several types of search engines which are for business, education, children, games, news and others. I will definitely be looking forward to explore all these kinds of search engines on my own.

FIRST CLASS

For the second semester, Dr. Chin will be teaching us Computer Application in Teaching. She started the class by asking us a few questions. Such as, what have we learned from the previous semester and who taught us this subject on the previous semester? Then, she started to brief us about the proforma and how many marks will be given for our assignment and final exam.

Next, she teach us about 'WordPress'. She told us that she prefers to use Word Press compared to 'blogspot.com' Then she asked us to sign up for our own Word Press account. She taught us how to use it, how to post in it, how to post pictures in it and most importantly how to post videos in our Word Press. She even taught us how to design our page on Word Press.

Honestly, I only know two types of application for blog which is Blogspot.com and Tmblr.com, but I came to know about WordPress.com after Dr. Chin first class. I started to explore it and try to design my page so that it will look more creative.
Here is Dr Chin's WordPress page.
