Week 6 Reflection

Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction.

For week six, Dr Chin has taught us this topic as a reference when we are planning our lesson plan. This strategy is to help educators to design process that share the behaviorist approach to learning, with a focus on the outcomes or behaviors of instruction or training. The steps are,

1. Gain attention of the students
This is to ensure the learners are ready to learn and participate in activities by presenting a
stimulus to gain their attention.

2. Inform students of the objectives
This is to help students to understand what they are learning for the course.

3. Stimulate recall of prior learning
Help students make sense of new information by relating it to something they already know or something they have already experienced.

4. Present the content
Use strategies to present and cue lesson content to provide more effective, efficient instruction. Organize and chunk content in a meaningful way. Provide explanations after demonstrations.

5. Provide learning guidance
Advise students of strategies to aid them in learning content and of resources available.

6. Elicit performance (practice)
Activate student processing to help them internalize new skills and knowledge and to confirm correct understanding of these concepts.

7. Provide feedback
To get immediate feedback of students performances. It is a process to assess and facilitate learning.

8. Assess performance
In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the instructional events, you must test to see if the expected learning outcomes have been achieved. Performance should be based on previously stated objectives.

9. Enhance retention and transfer to the job
To help learners develop expertise, they must internalize new knowledge.

Gagné’s Nine Events of Instruction can help build the framework with which to prepare and deliver instructional content. The goals and objectives should be prepared before applying the nine event's of instruction into teaching. It can be then modified to fit in both the content and student's level of knowledge.

Week 5 Reflection

For week five, we have been assigned to present four videos and six websites on technology application in teaching in early childhood education. As for me and my partner, Rosmarubi Binti Abdul Samat, we have chosen the theme 'sea creatures' for our presentation.

The videos include, song, games, cartoon and working sentences about sea creatures. Here are the videos.

1. Slippery Fish Song

2. Games for sea creatures

3. Cartoon to learn about sea creatures

As for the websites, we found blog and pages about sea creatures. The contents include, songs, lyrics, coloring material, games, etc. I found that, we can apply many technologies now in our teaching if we take the initiative to make some research on what topic we would like to teach. I hope that i can make a different when i am a teacher.

Week 4 Reflection

For week four, Dr Chin teaches us how to use powerpoint. For example, how to insert pictures, video clips, clip art, animations, and etc. Here, i will show few methods how to insert video clips into powerpoint slide and how to use it.

How to insert video into Powerpoint slide?
There are two methods of inserting video clips into power point slides. First, by using hyperlink to the video clips from the Net and secondly, by downloading the clip video itself, convert it into a suitable format that can be read by power point and insert it into the slide.

Pictures Enhance a Presentation
Content layout slides, such as the slide in this example, have a button shown on the slide to click, to add the type of content you want in that section of the slide.
Content options available are
  • insert table
  • insert chart
  • insert Smart Art graphics
  • insert picture
  • insert clip art
  • insert media clip
To follow this example, you need to click the button to insert a picture. Locate the picture on your computer.
Note - If you have not chosen a Content layout type of slide you can easily insert a picture from the ribbon.
  • Click on the Insert ribbon.
  • Click on the Picture icon
  • Locate the picture on your computer.
In addition, here is a blog where you can see more on how to use the powerpoint slide.
